OHYOUKIDMERTZ in Chicago
Current INUIT exhibition, until December 28, 2013
Chicago. Established in 1991, Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art (Intuit) is the only nonprofit organization in the United States that is dedicated solely to presenting self-taught and outsider art — with world class exhibitions; resources for scholars and students; a Permanent Collection with holdings of more than 1,100 works of art; the Henry Darger Room Collection; the Robert A. Roth Study Center, a non-circulating collection with a primary focus in the fields of outsider and contemporary self-taught art; and educational programming for people of all interest levels and backgrounds. Exhibitions, programming, and operations are member supported and privately funded through contributions from individuals and foundations. Additional support is provided through the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency, and the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs.

Furthermore to this self-information from Intuit a current exhibition is announced as follows:

Albert “Kid” Mertz (1905-1988), a one-time prize fighter and autoworker, lived with his family in a small house in Lilley Township of Newaygo County, Michigan. Upon retirement, Mertz spent his days living off the land and creating signs often festooned with greetings, wacky sayings and comments. He used his off-beat creations to decorate his humble home and tempt passing tourists to visit his remote property. His unique painted constructions covered with backwoods philosophy often took cues from his visitors (“IYAMWHATIYAM”) and the children who begged their parents to be taken home (“IWANNAGOHOME”).

GAIA Museum of Outsider Art in Denmark

GAIA Museum of Outsider Art in Denmark
Permanent collection shows 400 works by international Outsider artists
Randers (Denmark). GAIA Museum Outsider Art is a unique museum focusing on Outsider Art. The museum exhibits art created by people who live outside the realms of social normality and create their art outside the mainstream and established art world. Furthermore the museum is a cultural enterprise staffed by professionals and people with special needs, according to what Roger Cardinal said in 1979: “Outsider art is a product of an authentic impulse to create and is free of conscious artifice. It has nothing to do with contrivance and academic, everything to do with passion and caprice.”

The permanent collection includes around 400 artworks by Outsider artists from all over the world. The works are collected in an attempt to show the diversity and the fundamental spontaneous creative urge that characterizes Outsider Art. The work provides an insight to the artists’ perception of reality and reflect a perspective back to the viewer with room for reflection.
Selected artworks from the collection are exhibited at the museum.
Examples of artists in the collection: Aleksander Lobanov (1924 - 2003, RU), Hans Hartmann (b.1963, NL), Herleik Kristiansen (b.1947, NO), Judith Damgaard (b.1954, DK), Manfred Teege (1943-2001, DE), Pradeep Kumar (b.1973, IN), Thomas Schlimm (b. 1961, DE), Raymond Thunder-Sky (1950 -2004, USA), or Werner Voigt (b.1935, DE).
